JobSummary: Bringing books and people together since 1971, Tattered Cover Book Store is a Colorado institution and a community gathering place with four locations in metro Denver. Tattered Cover stores are located at Colfax Ave and Union Station in Denver, and at Aspen Grove in Littleton, in addition to a popular children’s book store at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. In July 2024, Tattered Cover was acquired by Barnes & Noble who continues to operate these stores under the Tattered Cover brand.

As a Barista, you provide first class service to our customers with every drink you create and every cookie you bake, ensuring their experience is your top priority. You make the customer experience pleasurable and provide the perfect complement to any book. Your passion for coffee, creating inspiring drinks and your knowledge of the café ensures that customers are delighted by the handcrafted beverages you serve.

The Barista will prepare and serve coffee, tea, other beverages, and select food items to patrons while maintaining a welcoming and clean environment. Shifts will be Fridays and Saturdays with the opportunity to cover other shifts as needed

WhatYouDo:

• Opens and closes the café.

• Prepares and serves hot and cold beverages, such as coffee, blended coffee, and tea, to patrons; correctly customizes orders as requested.

• Describes product details to customers and upsells when possible.

• Receives and processes customer payments.

• Serves prepared foods, baked goods.

• Ensures customer service stations are properly stocked.

• Cleans and sanitizes all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work areas.

• Cleans and sanitizes service and seating areas.

• Ensures proper functioning of freezers, refrigerators, and heating by routinely checking temperatures in that equipment.

• Stocks supplies or retail products; may inventory, order, or receive products as directed.

• Complies with health and safety regulations.

• Other duties as assigned by the manager.

Knowledge&Experience:

• Ability to create a pleasing customer experience by engaging with customers in a personable and service-oriented manner.

• Ability to serve customers quickly, efficiently, and kindly.

• Ability to work effectively with customers of all ages

• Ability to manage multiple orders simultaneously and recall faces, names, and preferences of frequent patrons.

• Ability to work well under pressure.

• Able to work alone.

• Ability to receive and process payments accurately.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to follow all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices.

• Punctuality and reliable attendance are essential for this position

• Previous barista or food service experience preferred

• Must be familiar with point of sale (POS) systems

• Must be able to lift up to 30pounds at times

• Must be able to move efficiently and effectively behind the counter

• Constantly required:

o Standing/walking most of the time

o Interacting with customers

o Lifting, reaching, pouring, measuring and other tasks related to the preparation of beverages and food items

o Cleaning utensils, surfaces, sinks and other designated areas

• Sometimes required:

o Unpacking, rewrapping, and displaying merchandise

o Unpacking and storing supplies

o Deep cleaning

Notes:

An employee in this position can expect a hourly rate starting at $18.29.
